One lonely night in the town of Wasusy, defamed boxer Veil goes to the office of 42th, cyborg-raptor P.I. Veil is listing off a number of his enemies when none other then The Batman enters from the shadows asking about one of them, Dancing Sam, who was recently found dead. Unbeknownst to them, on an adjacent rooftop a clever assasin, Owen, is setting up for a hit. As The Batman leaves the office, another mysterious stranger appears behind Owen, the gentleman Rache. He warns Owen not to kill the men in the office, with a death threat. Rache then disappears and Owen is left on the rooftop. He suddenly senses someone watching him and looks to the adjacent rooftop to see none other than 42th, who had gone after the Batman for an autograph of all things. 42th sees him but Owen is able to slip away. Then the raptor goes back to his office to grab his coat and finds Rache in his chair. The gentleman asks for a favor from 42th, a location of somebody unspoken. He then leaves. As 42th leaves the office he searches his pockets for his keys and is surprised to find the keys to, The Batmobile.
Then 42th crashes the Batmobile. Owen helps to defend a young dame named Miss P, who accepts a ride home in the Batmobile, which Batman had found. Batman somehow notices that Metalninja is in a room of the King's Hotel across the street, listening to their conversation and drives his car into a room twenty stories up. In another part of town, Clara Minnelli, sister of Charlie "Robo-Dogface", leaves her apartment and is walking down the street when her arm is caught by a suspicious English gent. Somewhere unknown in the trunk of a car, Seamus O’Seamus is just awakening, and he's tied up.
After leaving 42th's office in a huff, Seamus is kidnapped by mobsters who mistake him for rival head gangster Robo Dog-Face Charles. Rache rescues him, and the two are driving when they pass King's Hotel, and there's an explosion. The explosion is from the bomb Time-Traveling Lincoln planted under RDFC's desk for being an "incompetent mobster," but RDFC survives by hiding in a safe, a la Indiana Jones (incidentally, the same safe that MetalNinja was keeping the taped conversations of RDFC to give to Owen - Charles steals these tapes and they are never seen again).
Rache and Seamus head to King's Hotel to investigate where they find Batman "questioning" a hapless MetalNinja (with an unconscious Miss P and delirious 42th in the Batmobile). Rache and Seamus stage a diversion, and there's a scuffle, which is ended when Seamus heaves Batman over the stairway railing and into the lobby below (across the street from the telephone where Clara and Owen are). MetalNinja passes out. Rache takes the Batmobile for a joyride, gets smacked by Miss P, and abandons 42th on railroad tracks.
42th disguises himself as a hobo. Veil comes along, after having arranged for a hit on 42th, and grabs an un-raptorly hobo to take to the site of the hit. Batman shows up, and Veil takes out the hit men and convinces Batman that they were RDFC's mobsters, thus turning Batman's focus to neutralizing Charles' operations. Batman heads for the docks (Charles' headquarters), but the bomb explosion at King's Hotel demands his attention.
Seamus gets woozy from low sugar and is attended by the lovely Clara and Batman, with Miss P smirking in the background. Miss P takes Seamus off to Henry Smithgel's estate for a "talk," and Clara is incapacitated by a falling brick, which automatically qualifies her for recruitment as the new Robin. At the Smithgel estate, Seamus is attacked by Vaudevillians and breaks out with RACHE's aid. They abscond with Miss P to Pearl's Diner, where RACHE gets his breakfast and Seamus arranges a real meeting with Smithgel. They head their separate ways. Veil tries to run down Lincoln, and fails, and kills a random civilian, and succeeds.
Owen digs out MetalNinja from the rubble of King's Hotel, and they head to Pearl's Diner to discuss the situation. They're attacked by the undead gypsy-clown Lackadaisical(?), who is the pirate king of the pirate crew currently sitting in port and terrorizing the citizens of Wasusy. Things look bad until 42th, who returned from his hobo-informant contacts, jumps into the fray, claws a-blazing, and subdues Lackadaisical(?). Unfortunately, he also subdues Owen and MetalNinja by leaving them in a dumpster. 42th goes inside to try Pearl's blueberry pie. Veil happens upon Lackadaisical(?) and does the madman's equivalent of befriending him because they both love chaos. Rache sidles into the diner and holds a napkin conversation with 42th. Then Rache sidles back out.
Owen and MetalNinja free themselves and crash into the diner with Francisco "Paco" Fonesca, who just had his apartment blown up in a very threatening manner. They hold a campfire meeting with 42th. It is revealed that Veil is mad scientist Doctor Rugen's experiment gone wrong, when Veil's mind broke, he killed his creator and started hallucinating things. Unfortunately, due to his amped-up mental powers, his hallucinations become reality, as in the case of Lincoln. They head to 42th's office to discuss things further. Fonesca leaves to buy a knife SHANNNNNNK. Clara, unwillingly, receives Robin-training, befriends Alfred, and attempts to escape but fails. Batman decides that she is ready, and they make for the docks to take on Charles. The duo finds him and ties him up for the police, with Clara doing some very unsisterly things for good measure, and swing back to the Batcave.
At the same time, Lackadaisical(?) breaks into the Batcave and steals a gun. Then he kidnaps Rache, gives him his father's gun, and tells him to kill Charles because mob activities interfere terribly with pirate activities. Rache breaks into Charles's headquarters, makes a terrifically bloody mess of things, and spirits the already trussed-up Charles away to Tildewick Bridge by Pearl's Diner. Rache intimidates him a bit before pushing him into Wasusy River (a survivable fall).
Miss P meets with Smithgel and learns of a complicated twisty business
. It's basically about absolution and Smithgel righting the wrongs that he made. She and Smithgel head to Tildewick bridge, to meet with Seamus and Lincoln. They're a bit late, and Lincoln's a bit early, and Seamus is right on time, though, which gives Lincoln the opening to push Seamus into Wasusy River, because tangible hallucinations are nutty like that, and make a run for it. Smithgel and Miss P give chase. Owen, MetalNinja, and the 42th track Veil down to the Palladium, an old boxing ring that was the site of Veil's last victories. Veil does spooky mental hocus-pocus, which incenses MetalNinja, so he goes for a walk by the river and finds Seamus. 42th leaves very inconspicuously. Owen starts edging out as Veil's hallucinations turn to memories of Dancing Sam, the murdered boxer -- but Owen blacks out and wakes up in Smithgel's living room. While the trio is out, Lackadaisical blows up 42th's office.
42th returns to his office to find it in little pieces all over the street. Luckily, his secretary Molly Aberdeen isn't in today, so nobody's harmed. He picks up a special delivery of spy gadgets and heads out to gumshoe. He engages in a brawl with Lincoln behind King's Hotel, loses the upper hand (talon), is saved by his spy gadget, and loses the upper hand (talon) again. At that moment, Miss P decides to make an ill-planned stand of courage and shoot Lincoln with a non-existent bullet. Smithgel steps in with his wicked awesome gun and "kills" Lincoln - "kills" because Lincoln, being only a figment of Veil's imagination, vanishes upon "death."
42nd (some malicious dragon superentity) revives Lincoln time as an autonomous figure, independent of Veil's mind. Fonesca happens upon the trio of 42th, Miss P, and Smithgel, and they form an accord and split up in two cars: Miss P with 42th in Smithgel's Rolls Royce, and Smithgel with Fonesca in the latter's car (so that Paco can haz a cheezburger). Rache sees, but can't follow because they all have cars and he doesn't.
Seamus comes to, after being rescued from Wasusy River by MetalNinja. When he demonstrates his undying gratefulness by attacking MetalNinja, he gets knocked out again and wakes up in the street, where he's mistaken for Robo Dog-Face Charles, again, but this time by Franco Lombardo (looking for revenge after RDFC beat him up and put his brother into a coma). Lombardo lets Seamus go, after obtaining Charles' possible location.
Batman angsts for a while by the grave of his parents, Alfred at his side, and considers Dick. Then he and Clara go out for a night of wild restrained, dignified partying socializing. Lackadaisical breaks into the Batcave-cum-Wayne-mansion again and does terrible things to Alfred. The mansion burns down. Batman and Clara return in time to save Alfred, Clara is a scary degree mad, and they speed off for the circus in the Batmobile.
MetalNinja goes for another walk because things are just not going well for him
, and he gets (badly) mugged by notmelman. Rache wanders onto the scene and scares the would-be mugger away. Because he's still searching for Doctor Rugen (he's not aware that Veil killed him a long time ago), he and MetalNinja hotwire a vehicle with the intention of heading to Smithgel's digs. Suddenly, car crash! 42th, Miss P, and MetalNinja are all knocked unconscious. Agent Montoya arrives in Wasusy by aircraft and finds a gun with special significance.
Rache pulls Miss P and 42th out before Lombardo comes upon the scene, whereupon Rache tries to offer him a hug, which he misinterprets really badly. Miss P goes on a brief guilt trip and escapes with 42th. It is learned that 42th, being a technologically-advanced cyborg-velociraptor, can "read" the thoughts of the weak-minded, which is how he keeps an effective PI business. Rache follows Miss P and 42th to Smithgel's mansion, where Smithgel and Fonesca have retreated to after their burger outing. Owen, who woke up in the mansion after the confrontation with Veil in the Palladium, "borrows" a shiny car from Smithgel and comes upon MetalNinja, lying amidst the wreckage of the car explosion. They head back to Smithgel's mansion. Lombardo reads about activity down at the docks, involving RDFC. He goes to the docks. Veil intercepts 42th before he and Miss P make it to Smithgel's estate. He tells 42th to go to the docks. Seamus seeks out his cousin, Shamus. Laca-Dread-sical surveys the growing crowd on the docks. He unwisely taunts Batman and Clara.
Lacadaisical(?) has a run in with his future self down at the docks. Franco, needing a mode of transportation, wins a bike off a bet and heads to the dock. Clara rushes in blind rage the clowns a the docks but gets knocked back. Due to some odd resonance, 42th’s mind reading device transmits knowledge into Rache who learns the truth about Rugen. Batman watches as Clara gets knocked about and then rushes the clowns asking that one crucial question: “Why?” Laca-Dread-sical reveals to Batman that it was him who killed his parents. Batman deals with this by retrieving Robin and resuming his assault.
42th rounds up Miss P, Rache, Owen, MetalNinja, Fonesca into Smithgel’s mansion to get everybody on the same page and plan out an attack on Veil before heading to the docks. Franco makes it to the docks with intentions of finding Robo-Dogface Charles and watches the events that are happening there unfold. Clara continues the battle with Batman two steps ahead of her when she notices the new arrivals to the docks. Ohm makes his appearance and watches in silence. Seamus, in his apartment by the docks, watches the events unfold. Fonesca considers the strength of the word versus the strength of the sword. Agent Montoya arrives on the scene to watch. Laca-Dread-sical! steals a car and rams it into Robin. MetalNinja rushes to Clara’s aid. Fonesca recovers from being thrown out of the car and prepares for retaliation. Franco joins the fray. Batman finishes his move and waits on the clowns. Owen is on the defense. Clara has a hazy dream/memory while passed out. And then suddenly…
PSYChIC CAR RADIO EXPLOSION!
Fonesca reflects on his lawyerhood during the explosion. Miss P has a moment affected by the psychic radio explosion. It is revealed that the dragon, 42nd, has been the culprit in placing valuables in Veil’s apartment.
