The P.I. Casefiles: Music to Noir By

Postby 42th » Thu Feb 18, 2010 1:53 am

I've been pondering recently the question of what if the Noir Threads had a soundtrack. After being discussed in the chatbox for a bit, this is what we've come up with.

The complete Grim Fandango soundtrack
The Complete Bioshock Orchestral Score
The Midnight Crew album from MSPaint Adventures

Le Doulos theme by Paul Misraki
LA Confidential theme by Jerry Goldsmith
The Batman Theme by Danny Elfman
Max Payne 2 Main Theme by Kärtsy Hatakka & Kimmo Kajasto
The Pink Panther Theme by Henry Mancini
Shot In The Dark/Peter Gunn (Under The Gunn Mix) by Chris Mancini & Lennart
Rack 'Em Up by Jonny Lang (a.k.a Franco's Theme)
Le Samourai soundtrack by Francois de Roubaix
Sin City End Theme
Controlled Jazz from OCRemix
Tank! from Cowboy Bebop
The U.N. from North By Northwest
The sound of rain

Also while not really Noir music, I'd like to grandfather in the original radio broadcasts of The Maltese Falcon and Casablanca with Humphrey Bogart found here. Casablanca is #125 and The Maltese Falcon is #144.

What others should belong here? Discuss.

Interesting, I recently mentioned to Ms. Shank about the plausibility of Wasusy having a radio station (just another element to make the world more interesting). Radio W.M.N.S. (Wasusy Music and News Station) or something.

Maybe the Fallout 3 soundtrack too?

Oh man, perfect thing:
The Midnight Crew album, from MSPaint Adventures
It's specifically designed to be noir

I agree with all of the above.

And if Franco had a theme song, it would be this.

While not specifically Noir music, I'd like to share this. Specifically #125 and #144. They're sheer amazing if you've never heard them before.

In my continuing effort to create the ultimate Noir playlist, I present two new songs here and here, the entire Grim Fandango soundtrack for download here, the entire Bioshock Orchestral Score for download here, and an updated first post.

Welcome to my own personal weird-dang nwar playlist

Alibi - David Gray

The more I match it up to characters and plotlines, the more I like the idea of this song + noir. It therefore gets an honored spot and an explanation.

Also,
Bolero from Moulin Rouge,
Clumsy - Our Lady Peace
Shining - Kristian Leontiou
Sober - Pink
Piano Man - Billy Joel
Hallelujah - Any, I suppose, but I personally like the Rufus Wainwright cover
Cure My Tragedy - Cold
Blood of the Rose - The Dear Hunter

...eh, that's good for now.
G: Like helplessness experiments. That's the biggest problem in zombie apocalypses. People who survive will always eventually come to question why they bother.
Seamus: The biggest problem in zombie apocalypses is poor planning and not enough ammo.
