Comic Discussion Thread - October 2014

Remember when your parents told you your dog got sent to a farm? This is that farm, except it's full of old monthly discussion threads.

It makes sense that Chuck would aim for a place and time very close to the critical moment. There are all kinds of bad things that could result from Chuck spending too much time putzing around before completing his mission. There was no way to be sure Z-Chuck would even live 40 years, let alone being able to become mayor and implement a whacky zombie defense system.

Also, a single time traveler, let alone dozens of the same guy, living quietly and anonymously is bad enough for causality. All of them actively and simultaneously trying to change pivotal events in world history for a long period of time would make an enormous mess. For instance, what if you had Roomba-Chuck running for mayor of Cumberland against Zombie-Chuck, while Dino-Chuck is trying to climb the ranks of NASA to implement an Anti-Dino-Scout orbital cannon? Pretty soon, you've got a world where raptor banditos are rampaging across Mexico and Dracula lives with Elvis and Bruce Lee in a moon base.

(EDIT: As I wrote that last sentence, it occurred to me that, in Doc's world, everyone's argument is invalid all the time.)

Well, you could get a Chuck "Badrich" if a Chuck Goodrich from one dimension goes to a different dimension to use it to save his own dimension. But, alas, Chris Hastings has already thought of that one. . . .

Oh, I get what's probably going on here. Doc is worried about getting emotionally attached to this Chuck because of how hard it was to lose the last two.

Those guys weren't the first people to be killed/injured by Madam President. She had already subdued over two dozen attackers: http://drmcninja.com/archives/comic/28p06/.

Edit: That is to say, they were probably came for her to subdue her for the other people she hurt, then were pheromone-ized.

The President doesn't seem to remember having pizza with :doc , doesn't seem to care about him or respect his skills. He makes a rookie mistake (pheromones, gas mask, duh), falls victim to the very thing he came to prevent, almost causes a Chuck-worthy dystopian future and made himself look like an idiot in the process. Now he's been dismissed like an everyday mook, he has another Chuck to watch out for and the death/disappearance of the others is already heavy on his conscience.

He's not the hero. Next thing you know, people will realize he's actually just trying to be like Batman and start laughing at him.

The real world is suddenly doing a suspiciously good job of confronting the Doctor with his real insecurities and weaknesses.

Or the second, which is why it has now bumped the Doctor up to Psychological Torture level 3: false release.

Yes, it could go on all day, maybe even longer than that last comic. . . .

You know, I feel like I'm kind of a pedant in here sometimes and it's maybe a little unfair, so I just wanna say: That Goodrich reveal from All The King's Dirtbikes remains one of the best twists I've ever read.

Nice change of pace from the typical 80-page epics.
